Default Can I give my account away?

I own multiple accounts. (Some family members do not play anymore). Is it possible to give one away to someone (a different family member)? I have heard that selling it is illegal but is giving it? How would I do that? ThankS!

The EULA says no. You could always just give the account details to whoever you like, but this gets messy in support situations. Let's say, for example, that the account gets hacked and Anet nukes it because the hackers used it for botting. The person you gave the account to has no idea what the account details are and cannot authenticate themselves. There are other examples too, but I won't go into them now. Anet won't ban you for violating the rule as it's for the general wellbeing of the people involved, but if you want to do it I don't think there's much stopping you (it's much like the 'only one person can use an account' rule - a lot of people openly admit to sharing accounts with family members and Anet doesn't care at all).

Yes, because it is against the EULA which you agreed to when joining.

Marty is right -- it doesn't matter until it comes to support, so it's not just the login that would need to be given, but the email address the account was tied to, the cdkeys, and personal information.

Technically it's against the EULA but there's nothing NCSoft can do about it and there's no way they could know.

If your giving it to a family member it shouldn't be a big problem. I gave my 2nd account to my husband when he first started. Of course he liked the game and brought an account for himself as we want to play GW2 and its nice and neat if its in our own names.

But if they just want to mess around in the game for a bit or are not a....'serious' gamer I don't think it would matter.

I think anets more forgiving if its to close family members - ie those who live nearby , if the family member is somewhere else like a diff country then the huge change in ip may set a warning off and anet may do a ban for security reasons.
As long as you give the family member all the details they need ( reciept possibly , the cards with the codes on etc ) then if they have a problem they will have details on hand for support - something a hacker wont have.

OK thanks guys. It's actually for my daughter who is off at college. Maybe I'll just think about buying her a copy.

If you do give an account away, YOU are responsible for any thing that happens in your account. If (x) person (x being random) uses botting, hacks or match manipulation : You are to be responsible.
